Grade 6 Graduation
Our 2011 grade 6 students had their Graduation on Tuesday evening. It was a really enjoyable and fantastic evening of celebration and excitement. The grade 6 students presented highlights and very special moments of their primary school years. They were incredibly entertaining with a number of music performances, dance performances, very creative speeches and they even showed the audience a film that they had created especially for the night.
I congratulate each and every one of them on their contribution and presentations on the night and also for their amazing contribution to Strathmore Primary School. The Graduation Evening also had a formal ceremony with each of the students receiving a Graduation Certificate and a specially engraved Strathmore Primary School Memory stick.
Student Orientation
On Tuesday the grade 6 students went off to their new Secondary School for 2012. On the same day our year prep to 5 students moved up a year level to become year 1 to 6 students. They spent the morning rotating through a series of activities. Each student spent time with four teachers currently teaching in the student's new grade level. The students really enjoyed the session and shared their experience with classmates and teachers.
Cyber Safety
Today's children have grown up with the internet, mobile phones and social networking that connect them to their peers and for most of the time it is a really positive and productive activity. Unfortunately, technologies can also be used negatively where children can be the target of inappropriate messages or even bullying. It is really important that adults help children and young people prepare for the hazards whilst promoting the many learning opportunities.
There are many social networking sites that are not suitable for Primary Aged students and Face book is one of these. Children need to be 13 before they can set up a page.
Over the school holidays please talk with your children and be aware of the sites and programs they are accessing so they can stay safe. The Department of Education has lots of information about being Cyber smart and Cyber safe.
